Jones to Cosponsor Series of Bills Honoring U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Armed Forces

Third District Representative Walter B. Jones (R-NC) is cosponsoring several pieces of legislation introduced in the 110th Congress to support and honor the United States Marine Corps, and the entire United States Armed Forces.
“Each of the men and women who wear the uniform in defense of our nation is an American hero,” Congressman Jones said. “Many members of the U.S. Armed Forces have given their lives to defend the freedoms that all Americans enjoy today. All of our nation’s service members deserve our gratitude and unwavering support.”
Legislation Jones is cosponsoring to honor the U.S. Marine Corps, and all members of the U.S. Armed Forces, includes:
· H. Res. 958, to reaffirm the commitment of the House of Representatives to the patriotic and professional men and women serving in the United States Marine Corps in defense of the United States;
· H. R. 5222, the Semper Fi Act, in response to the Berkley, California, City Council proclamation which called for the U.S. Marine Corps to close its recruiting station in the city, the bill would rescind funds appropriated by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2008 for the City of Berkeley, California, and provide that such funds be transferred to the Operation and Maintenance, Marine Corps account of the Department of Defense for the purposes of recruiting;
· H. Con. Res. 246, to honor the United States Marine Corps for serving and defending the United States on the anniversary of its founding on November 10, 1775;
· H. Res. 276, to honor the 53,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and civilians that comprise the Nation's special operations forces community;
· H. Res. 953, to express the sense of the House of Representatives that all Americans should participate in a moment of silence to reflect upon the service and sacrifice of members of the United States Armed Forces both at home and abroad;
· H. Con. Res. 295, to express the deepest appreciation of Congress to the families of members of the United States Armed Forces;
· H. Res. 784, to recognize and honor, in community post offices, the service of men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces deployed overseas; and
· H. R. 5131, the Lance Corporal Jeremy Burris Act, to provide criminal penalties for the destruction of memorials, headstones, markers, and graves commemorating persons serving in the Armed Forces on private property.
