In observance of Memorial Day, Third District Representative Walter B. Jones (R-NC) issued the following statement:
“For more than 100 years, our nation has set aside a day to remember the members of our Armed Forces who have died fighting to protect our liberties,” Congressman Jones said. “As a nation at war, it is especially important that the United States of America honor its commitment to past, present and future members of the Armed Forces.”
“Memorial Day is a day to reflect upon those who have given their lives in the past, as well as those in the present,” Jones said. “This Memorial Day, I hope Americans will take time to remember and pay tribute to the men and women in uniform who have died serving their country. It is only because of their courage and their sacrifice that America is free. May we never forget to say, ‘Thank you.’”
Congressman Jones has joined in cosponsoring the following recently-introduced legislation to support our military and our veterans:
H.R. 5740, Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act, a bill to provide veterans who served on active duty in the Armed Forces after September 11, 2001, with enhanced educational assistance benefits;
H.R. 5825, the Hubbard Act, a bill to ensure the fair treatment of a member of the Armed Forces who receives sole survivorship discharge; and
H.R. 5857, the Homeownership Protection and Housing Market Stabilization Act, a bill to improve home ownership for veterans by providing: a temporary increase in the maximum loan guaranty amount for housing loans guaranteed by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, counseling on mortgage foreclosures for members of the Armed Forces returning from service abroad, and enhanced protections for service members related to mortgages and mortgage foreclosures;
H.R. 6048, a bill to protect child custody arrangements for parents who are members deployed in support of a contingency operation.
