Washington February 27, 2008 -

The American Legion Department of North Carolina presented Third District Representative Walter B. Jones (R-NC) with an Award of Appreciation during its recent Mid-Winter Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina. Department Commander Richard W. Neville presented the award to Congressman Jones for his work on the House Armed Services Committee and his many years of service to the state, its military personnel, and the many veterans that call North Carolina home.

“We have always appreciated Congressman Jones’ steadfast commitment to our military personnel and to their families,” Commander Neville said. “The North Carolina American Legion Family is very proud of Congressman Jones and appreciates his integrity and his love of America.”

“I am honored and touched by this recognition,” Congressman Jones said. “It is a great pleasure to represent so many men and women who have served or are currently serving our nation in uniform, and I feel privileged to represent a district with such a rich military foundation.”

Since its founding in 1919, the American Legion has endeavored to assist veterans, their widows and children, and their fellow citizens. The organization now includes veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon/Grenada periods, Operation Just Cause in Panama, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Global War on Terror. The North Carolina American Legion includes more than 40,000 paid members.
